Urban Strategists are presenting several sessions at the 2024 Ontario Professional Planners Institute Conference, being held in Hamilton September 25-27th. The conference will explore how Registered Professional Planners (RPPs) navigate the profession’s rapidly changing landscape to emerge as qualified leaders who bring communities together in the public interest.

Shaping Spaces for All: Lessons from YWCA Hamilton on Gender-Informed Planning and Design: This session brings urban design and planning practitioners into a meaningful dialogue with YWCA Hamilton, revealing the essential role of gender-informed planning in city building. Co-led by Josh Neubauer and YWCA Hamilton’s Chelsea Kirkby and Violetta Nikolskaya.
Planning with the community – Jane Finch Mall Redevelopment Process Reflections: A panel discussion with Strategists Emily Reisman, Craig Lametti and Yasmin Afshar, along with project team members Shannon Holness and Troy Budhu.
From Biosphere to Business: How Geological Architecture Can be Economic Development Infrastructure in Hamilton: an interactive (and easy) hike exploring how ecological conservation can go hand-in-hand with economic development. Co-led by Strategist Josh Neubauer and Paul Shaker of Civicplan.
Designing the Inclusive City: Tim Smith will lead a “lightning round” session that takes participants on a visual journey around Ontario, across Canada, and to cities in the US and Europe to see places designed to meet the needs of everyone— people of all cultures, all ages, all abilities.
