Urban Strategies is currently working for the Algonquins of Ontario and Taggart Group, their development partner, to help realize a vision for the development of a new community founded on Algonquin values in southeast Ottawa. The proposal, known as Tewin, meaning “home” in the Algonquin language, is a once in a generation opportunity to create a sustainable and future-ready community which weaves the Algonquin people into the socio-economic fabric of the nation’s capital.
Urban Strategies is working with the development partners to help define ways in which a new contemporary community could embody the culture and history of the Algonquin people while satisfying the City’s objectives for new growth. Tewin has the potential to provide homes for 35,000-45,000 residents and embed thousands of jobs into a new complete and compact community. The emerging vision is of a new 15-minute sustainable community that uses the One Planet Living framework as a means to reflect Algonquin values related to respect for the earth and a better future for all. Urban Strategies is continuing to work with the AOO and Taggart Group to advance an integrated Master Planning, Community Design Planning, Secondary Planning and Environmental Assessment process.
